Our Farm Shop team has created a ‘foodie destination’, where customers can choose from some amazing ingredients; craft meats from our butcher’s counter, local in-season fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh breads and cakes, Irish artisan foods, and even prepared meals and soups produced by Ballymaguire Foods on our farm.

Tom Ferguson is the herdsman. He inherited Gubbeen in the early 70’s when he married Giana who originally came from London of an Anglo-Hungarian family. Their work at Gubbeen has involved, almost from the earliest days of meeting, a quest to produce food on the farm - food that comes directly from the land they farm and reaches customers as seasonally and as freshly as possible.

The Meade Family, like all Irish farm families, has always spent a lot of their ‘down’ time talking ‘shop’ or in this case, weather, harvest, etc. around the kitchen table.They debate about things like the best variety of spud, whether they should plant onion or carrots in a particular field. Thanks to their love of their family farm business, it has grown from being a small potato supplier to local shops to a grower, packer and distributor to retailers nationwide.

Every Sunday during the summer season you can visit Schull Country Market from 10am to 2pm at the Pier Road Car Park and be delighted by the array of locally produced goods. You'll find vegetables, fruit and salads harvested that morning from Lisheen Greens, as well as the renowned Gubbeen cheeses and cured meats from the Ferguson family farm just a couple of miles up the road.
